Why am I not getting pregnant?

Pregnancy can take time. Trouble getting pregnant can involve eggs, sperm, the tubes, the uterus, timing, or several factors at once. Sometimes tests do not find a clear cause.

What you should know

An evaluation may include a health history, ovulation review, semen test, and tests of the uterus or tubes. Care depends on age, how long you have tried, and health history. People age 35 or older often need an earlier review than younger people.

What to ask your care team

“Which tests do we each need, and what would the results change?”

One important reminder

Seek care sooner if you have very irregular periods, known reproductive disease, or another clear concern.

Before your next visit

Write down your questions. Bring your medicine list and any test results you have. Ask for a plan in writing. If an answer is not clear, ask your team to explain it in a different way.
