When should I ask for mental health help?

You can ask for help at any point in fertility treatment. You do not need a diagnosis to deserve support.

What you should know

Support may be useful when worry, sadness, anger, or poor sleep interfere with daily life. A trained professional can help with coping, grief, and difficult decisions. Your fertility team can help with referrals. If you have a mental health condition, coordinate care with your treating clinician.

What to ask your care team

“Who can I contact this week for emotional support?”

One important reminder

If you may harm yourself or cannot stay safe, contact emergency services or a crisis service now.

Before your next visit

Write down your questions. Bring your medicine list and any test results you have. Ask for a plan in writing. If an answer is not clear, ask your team to explain it in a different way.
