What happens after a positive IVF test?

A positive blood test is an important step, but follow-up is still needed.

What you should know

Your team may repeat hCG tests and schedule an ultrasound to confirm where the pregnancy is and how it is developing. Ask when to keep taking or stop IVF medicines. Your team will plan the move to prenatal care. A positive hCG does not rule out ectopic pregnancy.

What to ask your care team

“When is my ultrasound, and who manages my care next?”

One important reminder

Severe or one-sided pain, shoulder pain, fainting, or heavy bleeding needs urgent care.

Before your next visit

Write down your questions. Bring your medicine list and any test results you have. Ask for a plan in writing. If an answer is not clear, ask your team to explain it in a different way.
