Other reasons to call

A short list worth putting on the refrigerator.

Beyond clots, infection and bleeding, call for any of these in the six weeks after birth:

  • A severe headache that does not respond to medication, changes in vision, or new upper abdominal pain, which can indicate postpartum preeclampsia
  • A fever above 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Inability to pass urine, or burning and urgency
  • Thoughts of harming yourself or your baby
  • A feeling that something is seriously wrong, even if you cannot name it
