Infections you will be screened for, and one you should ask about
Most are straightforward. Syphilis is worth naming.
Standard screening includes HIV, hepatitis B, syphilis, and a urine culture for bacteria that cause no symptoms but can lead to kidney infection and preterm birth. All are treatable, and treatment changes outcomes.
Congenital syphilis has been rising sharply in the United States and is almost entirely preventable by testing and treating in pregnancy. Many missed cases involve women who were tested once early and not again later, or who were not tested at all.
Worth asking directly"Was I tested for syphilis, and will I be tested again in the third trimester?" Many states now require repeat testing, and it is a reasonable thing to confirm rather than assume.
