Having someone continuously with you

One of the few things that reliably changes how a birth is remembered.

Across 26 trials and 15,858 women, continuous one-to-one support reduced cesarean delivery (relative risk 0.75) and reduced the chance of remembering the birth negatively (relative risk 0.69). In an operating room, a second person who can say "she told you she is in pain" changes what happens next.

Where this comes from:
197. Bohren MA, Hofmeyr GJ, Sakala C, Fukuzawa RK, Cuthbert A. Continuous support for women during childbirth. Cochrane Database Syst Rev. 2017;7:CD003766.
