Consent taken during labor
The structural problem at the heart of every "I was never told."
Most cesarean consent forms are signed by a woman who is in pain, often exhausted, sometimes medicated, and who has just been told her baby may be in trouble. No one absorbs placenta accreta risk in that moment.
Guidance describes informed consent as a process of shared decision making that includes alternatives, uncertainties and the option of declining. That process cannot be compressed into ninety seconds between contractions.
The fix is prevention, not paperworkThis is what preventive ethics means in practice. The conversation belongs in the prenatal office, weeks earlier, when nothing is urgent and the answer is not yet needed. Everything in this tool is designed to happen before the moment consent is asked for.
